What To Wear...
Many clients ask about what to wear. It makes sense that anyone taking the time to make an appointment to have their photo taken would want to look their best. Here are the tips I commonly give people.
1. Layers- Layers are great because they add interest and texture. They also offer chances to change the look easily. A button up shirt over a t-shirt, more than one top, a simple jacket, all of this adds interest and opportunity for change.
2. Matching- It was very common to see families match entire outfits in the 80's and 90's, and while I love Back to the Future, your photos will not. If you want to look like you all belong together, try coordinating, working in color families. A splash of red accessories on Mom, a red shirt for Dad, a red toy for kiddo; it all works, just don't overdo it.
3. Accessories- Try some accessories to addd layers to your photos. Necklaces, earnings, scarves, hats, ad bracelets are a good way to add personality and interest to your images. The best accessory you have is a great attitude.
4. More than one look- If you have a small group (5 or less), bringing a change of clothes can change things up easily. One pair of jeans and several different tops can offer lots of looks!
5. Patterns, textures, and logos- Textures are fantastic. Logos, however, can look dated, busy, or like they do not belong. Look at photos that inspire you, and go for it. Unless sessions are sponsored by a brand, you rarely see professional shoots with big brand graphics.
Paint The Moon offers even more tips for wardrobes, color schemes, and more.
